Climate Change Monitoring

The Cree Trappers Association (CTA), the James Bay Advisory Committee on the Environment (JBACE) and the Cree Regional Authority (CRA) received funding beginning in 2009 from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada to carry out a project for the “Identification of Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Measures for the Hunters, Trappers and Communities of Eeyou Istchee.”

The purpose of this internet based application is for the reporting and sharing of climate change observations. If you have observations that you would like to share you can submit them here. All new observations will be reviewed and posted on the map.

Project Objectives:

Improve the understanding of the environmental and human implications of climate change in Eeyou Istchee with a specific focus on the impacts on hunters, trappers and other community members
Identify vulnerabilities to climate change as well as the possible avenues for mitigation of and adaptation to its impacts
Enhance local awareness of the implications of climate change in Eeyou Istchee and encourage participation in mitigation and adaptation measures
